The way we handle their privacy is a vital part of our responsibility to customers and how we earn their trust.
We aim to create a culture at Vodafone where employees have a clear understanding of how important privacy is and how to ensure it is protected. Our Privacy Commitments set out the principles that govern our approach to privacy and how we engage with employees, partners and external stakeholders on relevant issues – such as designing products to protect privacy or assisting law enforcement.
We value privacy because of its value to people. It’s about more than legal compliance – it’s about building a culture that respects privacy and justifies the trust placed in us.
Openness and HonestyWe communicate clearly about actions we take that may impact privacy, we ensure our actions reflect our words, and we are open to feedback about our actions.

Privacy by Design
Respect for privacy is a key component in the design, development and delivery of our products and services.
When we are required to balance the right to privacy against other obligations necessary to a free and secure society, we work to minimize privacy impacts.
Laws and Standards
We comply with privacy laws, and we will work with governments, regulators, policy makers and opinion formers for better and more meaningful privacy laws and standards.
We are accountable for living up to these principles throughout our corporate family, including when working with our partners and suppliers.
Creating a privacy culture at Vodafone
We aim to create a culture where everyone at Vodafone has a clear understanding of how important privacy is to our customers and how to ensure it is respected.

We have a strong governance structure in place, binding across Vodafone in our Code of Conduct, to ensure that we live up to the Commitments and that we are effectively managing privacy concerns and risks in all our operations.
Privacy and security – our approach
The way we handle privacy and security is a vital part of our responsibility to customers and essential to the success of our business.
Our customers trust us with their personal information and their privacy. Protecting that information and respecting their privacy is fundamental to maintaining their trust.
Our privacy and security programmes govern how we collect, use and manage customers’ information – from ensuring the confidentiality of their personal communications and respecting their permissions and preferences, to protecting and securing their information.
Privacy by design across the mobile ecosystem
Mobile technology is a source of constant evolution in the information economy.
Each element – the networks, devices, platforms, social networks, browsers and applications we encounter on our mobiles – may be developed or provided by a different participant in the ecosystem, and even the users themselves now play a large role in determining how information is created, used and shared.
One of the consequences is that mobile users’ privacy experiences depend on decisions made by participants of widely varying sophistication based all over the world. We’ve created a video that might help illustrate how it all works, and the complications that arise when we try to apply traditional data protection distinctions to this rapidly changing environment.
To safeguard peoples’ privacy and give them the best possible experience, all of the elements need to work harmoniously. There’s a danger in this world of interconnectivity and unclear responsibilities where personal information can be mishandled, or where even our best efforts at ‘privacy-by-design’ are merely sporadic and disconnected islands of activity. Vodafone advocates ‘privacy-by-design across the entire ecosystem, and some of our documents here can explain what we mean and how we think this might best be achieved.
